Developed by the Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Program (TRPAP), a joint undertaking of the Government of Nepal, UNDP, SNV (Netherlands) and DFID (UK), the "Tamang Heritage Trail" is a new “off-the-beaten-track” trek, which highlights the ancient and rich traditional lifestyle of the people of this region who are mostly Tamangs who migrated to Nepal from Kerung in Tibet. Though they call themselves Tamangs, their culture and traditions are similar to the Tibetans rather than the Tamangs residing in the mid-hills of Nepal.
The Tamang Heritage Trail is a superb introduction to trekking in Nepal, combining some of the most beautiful scenery and unspoiled Tibeto-Tamang culture. The trailhead of this trekking destination is just a day’s drive from Kathmandu. The trek offers a variety of unique experiences – Tamang rituals, culture, festivals, traditional architecture, costumes and local dances.
